Experience:

Teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of Stephanie's goals as an educator is to instill a love of learning in her students, as she shares her own passion for learning with them. Stephanie feels there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with children. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. As an educator, Stephanie realizes that a single lesson plan or approach doesn't work for all students. It is also crucial to let students know that you are there for them when they are struggling to accomplish a goal. Stephanie makes sure her students always complete their lessons with a sense of accomplishment. She always recognizes their victories no matter how big or small.

Credentials

Information About Florida Homeschool Evaluations

Welcome to Homeschooling!

As required by s. 1002.41, F.S., to establish a home education program and maintain compliance with the statute, a parent should send in their Letter of Intent to their school district at the beginning of the school year during which your child will turn 6 years old by February 1st. Keep in mind you may include more than one child on the Letter Of Intent. Once the Letter of Intent has been submitted, you are now legally home educating your child. Congratulations! Parents should retain a copy of the L.O.I and documentation that it was received by the district. Parents could start homeschooling within the same day that their Letter of Intent has been submitted.

Florida homeschoolers may use any curriculum on any grade level that works for their student. Home-school parents can use public school standards and resources if they wish to but they are not required to do so. Need help choosing a curriculum? No problem we can assist you with that as well. To get familiar with a variety of free curriculum's take a glance under our free-schooling resources section below. Once you choose a curriculum you must start to keep records of your students learning. Florida Law requires 3 types of records to be kept; a log of educational activities, titles of reading materials & samples of the students work.

Home Education Evaluations are due once a year, on the anniversary of your Letter Of Intent (L.O.I). An evaluation is done to ensure that a student has been learning and is not truant with the law. Parents should retain a copy of the evaluation and documentation that the evaluation was received by the district. Each student's portfolio should be preserved for 2 years.

The parent chooses one of the following five options as their annual evaluation:

Testing options:

If you are moving to a different county within the state you would only need to transfer. You would NOT need to terminate your homeschooling journey and re-register. If you use the transfer form an evaluation will not be required to close out your home education program in the old county. The transfer form should be sent to the home education contacts at both the new county as well as the old county within 30 days after moving to the new county. Your evaluation deadline should remain the same. The old county should send written confirmation of the due date of your next evaluation to the parent and to the new school district. You can find this document at the bottom of this section.

If an evaluation is failed, the parent can choose another option as their annual evaluation from the remaining options (see above). If a failing evaluation is sent in, then the student will be placed on academic probation. They will no longer be able to participate in public school extracurricular activities. If the following evaluation (completed the next year) is failed again then the students home education journey will be terminated and the student will need to enroll in school. If the evaluation was passed then the academic probation will be lifted and you will be able to continue your homeschooling journey.

An evaluation along with your termination letter would need to be sent in to your district with your evaluation, if you decide to end your homeschooling journey. Maybe you are transitioning to a public school, you could be moving out of the state or maybe your student has finished their education and is graduating. You will find the termination letter listed at the bottom of this section. Simply click the link.

Testimonials

"Stephanie Hancock is bright and full of enthusiasm. Her bright energy burst through the call with such contagious goodness that my kids and I joined in.

My eldest was scared at first, she didn't know what to expect but Stephanie erased the fear and made my daughter feel so proud of her accomplishments. She even coached her on ways to look at obstacles in school. She has so much knowledge about teaching and homeschooling, I was extremely impressed. We talked way more than was scheduled as she was kind enough to answer all my questions and point me in the right direction with worksheets and activities and so much more. She was generous enough to evaluate all 3 of my homeschooled children one after the other and they loved talking to Mrs. Stephanie.

My children and I ended that call feeling good and I am grateful to have met her. She provided the evaluations the same day! She's the best and I hope she gets to spread her light all around!"

"Stephanie was great! Our Homeschool evaluations with her were super stress free, convenient and even a fun experience for my kids of ages 12 and 7. We had a natural conversation that flowed very easily. After speaking with her i was even more motivated to start the next year of homeschool. She also provided many tips & resources that were super helpful! We are very satisfied and will definitely continue to use her services moving forward."

-Stephanie G.

"Stephanie made our 1st homeschool evaluation experience wonderful. Very flexible, accessible and practical. My son loves having a conversation with her."

-Jaime C.

"I was fortunate to come across Stephanie for our first homeschooling experience. Not only did she conduct our evaluation, but she also offered valuable resources and guidance to address my concerns as a newbie homeschooler. She was also warm and kind towards my son. I am very pleased to have met her. "

-Ally A.

"I recently had the privilege of working with Stephanie to conduct my child's annual homeschool evaluation, and I couldn't be more impressed with the experience.

From the outset, Stephanie demonstrated an exceptional level of professionalism and dedication. Her rapid response to my inquiries instantly put me at ease, assuring me that we were in capable hands. Her extensive knowledge of homeschooling regulations and evaluation criteria was evident in the guidance she provided, making the process smooth and stress-free.

What truly sets her apart is her genuine passion for homeschooling and her commitment to supporting families in their educational journeys. She generously shared a wealth of resources.

I highly recommend Stephanie to any parent who homeschools or is considering homeschooling. Her dedication, knowledge, and unwavering support make her an outstanding resource for homeschooling families. We feel incredibly fortunate to have connected with her and look forward to continuing our partnership in our child's educational journey."

-Darlene R.

"It was a pleasure to work with Stephanie. I was homeschooling my son for kindergarten level and needed to have him evaluated by a certified teacher. My Google search brought me to Abcd Evals. From day one Stephanie was very responsive and very helpful since I was doing it for the first time. In addition I moved from another state thus I had to get myself 'adjusted' to Florida requirements, and Stephanie made it a breeze. We had an in-person meeting at our local library and Stephanie made it so easy for my son to feel comfortable and natural (he is bilingual and his primary language is Ukrainian, so I was a little concerned about his performance).

Stephanie is an 'encyclopedia' on homeschooling (and schooling in general) here in Boynton Beach, Florida and the area, she knows all free (or low cost) resources that are at our, parent's, disposal. Once we were done with our evaluation she sent me a whole list of things to do to help my son segue into the world of classic schooling. Even now, if I ask her a question about certain things in the schooling business, Stephanie always finds a moment to reply (she's a homeschooling mom of three, so imagine how busy she is!)."

Free Schooling Resources

Free-schooling was created from the idea that homeschooling doesn't have to be expensive. It has since grown into a way of life.

When it comes to educating our children there are SO many resources available.

They range from very expensive to absolutely free and we really like the free stuff!

Join our Facebook group where you can access daily free homeschooling resources & get your questions answered: https://www.facebook.com/groups/369544081904324/?ref=share_group_link

Homeschool parents can use public school standards and resources if they wish to but they are not required to do so. Homeschoolers might use these standards as a guide or a reference if they are creating their own curriculum.

For nature study, the best free resource is the great outdoors itself. Couple that with sites such as:

Some libraries even stock homeschool curriculum. Consider the following series resources:

Special Needs Curriculum

Parallel Alternative Strategies for Students (PASS)

PASS offers downloadable student workbooks and teacher’s guides in PDF format for most core high school subjects. These materials were written to help students with various special needs and are presented in an easy-to-understand format. You can find the PDFs by searching for “Parallel Alternative Strategies for Students” in the ERIC educational database. Or, to avoid scrolling through all of their offerings, use the links below:

Society for Quality Education (SQE)

SQE offers remedial programs for students who are struggling with grammar, reading, and math. SQE is a Canadian organization, but the materials can be used by families in other countries as well.

SQE’s Stairway to Grammar program is designed to help children in 7th grade and up who are struggling with grammar. The downloadable lessons do not constitute a complete grammar curriculum. However, they can be used along with a full program to improve your child’s grammar.

Stairway to Reading is a remedial reading program for students who have already received some reading instruction but are struggling with reading. However, with some adaptions, it can also be used with beginning readers. The program includes downloadable lessons, flashcards, games, reading material, and more.

Stairway to Math provides extra practice to help students improve necessary math skills like place value, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, percents, and more. The downloadable lessons include instructions and worksheets. It is not a complete math curriculum.

Able2Learn

Able2Learn offers an extensive collection of downloadable lessons, books, worksheets, and other educational resources. These materials are designed to help children with autism and other developmental disabilities master the skills necessary to succeed in their education and build a foundation for independence. Choose “curriculum” from the website’s menu, and you’ll find free materials for every major school subject, life skills, social skills, mental health, and more. Select “visual recipes” from the menu for recipes with clear instructions and pictures of every step. The recipes were created to help children learn independent living skills. Each recipe also includes a literacy component to assist those working on language and literacy skills.

Free Reading

Free Reading’s phonics curriculum can be used with kindergarten or first graders who are just beginning to read or with older students who need to improve their literacy skills. There are 40 weeks of detailed online lesson plans. The program also includes several downloadable components, including letter cards, word cards, and reading passages.

The Phonics Page

The Phonics Page offers 32 video-based phonics lessons. The program is designed to improve older students’ and adults’ reading and spelling skills. It teaches them to sound words out phonetically, rather than relying on sight word memorization. The Phonics Page is a Christian organization.

NWT Literacy Council

You’ll find many resources for teaching teens and adults on NWT Literacy Council’s Youth and Adult Literacy page. These downloadable materials were created for use in Canada. However, most of them will work well for families in other countries as well. Here’s some of what NWT Literacy Council offers.
